July Birthstone: Ruby
What Is A Ruby?
Rubies are made from Corundum which is a colorless mineral in it’s purest form. Rubies get their red color from Chromium. Fun fact: Sapphires are also made from Corundum, but get their variety of colors from different trace elements included in the stone. Ruby is not only the birthstone of July, it is also given as gifts for the 15th and 40th anniversaries!
How Do You Take Care Of Ruby Jewelry?
Just like Sapphires, Rubies register a 9 on the Mohs Hardness scale, which make Rubies an excellent choice for rings and other durable jewelry that is meant to be worn every day and last!
Ruby jewelry can be cleaned with both an ultrasonic and steamer (so long as there are no fractures, chips, etc.). Ruby jewelry can also easily be cleaned with a soft bristle brush and warm soapy water.
