LET’S MAKE SOME CHAINS !
In this class we are going to be making chains. Chains can be worn in so many ways and compliment any wardrobe. From delicate links to freeform super links, chains make a statement. The class includes 16- and 18-gauge copper and brass wire (*Sterling or fine silver wire available for purchase ). Using hammers, pliers, anvils and torches.
You’re encouraged to make any shape, size, and design that you like. We will have several examples of past pieces that will peak your ideas to make something in your style!
It’s approximately a 12 hour class ending with at least one wearable piece! (There is a 1-hour lunch at noon on Saturday)
Our chain-making course shows you the proper techniques for making durable, unique chains.
The Jewelers Guild we will provide you with supplies and equipment so you can make some great chains.
In this course you will learn:
- What type of metal you can use for chains
- What is wire gauge
- How to use jeweler saw
- How to use pliers for fabrication
- How to properly wrap, cut, and link jump rings into a chain
- How to make simple clasp
- How to solder as your first time!

Bio
Born and raised in China, Wang holds an MFA degree in Metalsmithing and jewelry design at Indiana University of Bloomington, IN, and a BFA from East Carolina University, NC.
Her work reflects elements from everyday life through traditional metalsmithing techniques. Wang exhibits nationally and internationally, and she is currently an artist in residence at Lillstreet Art Center in Chicago, Illinois.

JEWELERS GUILD CLASS FAQ’S
What if I don’t know what to make?
You can check Pinterest or Instagram for some inspiration prior to class. We will also have some designs to get you started.
Do I need to have experience?
We offer many beginner classes however some classes do require experience. Please check the class description to find out.
What supplies will I need to bring?
For most classes the supplies and tools are furnished. Please check the class description to find out. If you have a favorite set of tools, you are welcome to bring them. For longer classes you might want to bring lunch. Other than that, just yourself, your curiosity and ideas and maybe some friends!
Is there an age limit?
We offer a variety of classes for all ages. However, some classes have an age limit due to the tools that are used (sharp knives, exactos, etc.).
What if the class is sold out?
We have a waiting list. Just drop us an email and if anyone drops out of the class, we will notify you. We run workshops monthly, so you’ll likely get another chance!
What if I don’t finish my piece?
Our plan is to send you home with a finished piece but there is no pressure to finish! At the very least you will leave with new knowledge and the ability to finish your project at home. If you find you need tools that you don’t have or that you would like to continue creating, we rent out benches in our workshop at an hourly/daily/weekly rate. What if I can’t make it to a class I signed up for?
We offer full refunds for classes canceled at least 10 days prior to the start date. If you cancel later than the 10 days, we can offer you credit to be used at the Jewelers Guild for classes or merchandise.
