Let’s Make a Roller Ring
In this 6 hour class, you will learn to make a roller ring made out of sterling silver. In this class, learn to use a jewelers saw to cut out the metal, file edges smooth and form three rings into a perfectly round ring shape. Learn to solder the rings and combine the three rings together to form the roller ring. This class will introduce you to soldering and will finish with polishing your ring to perfection.
We will take you through each step of the process and introduce you to several tools and techniques such as using a jewelers saw, files, soldering, ring forming and polishing. You will leave the same day with your own sterling silver roller ring.

Skill level: No experience necessary! This workshop is suitable for beginners and more experienced makers looking to learn a new technique.
Class size: 6 students. Space is limited to keep instruction optimal and intimate.
Materials: All tools and materials will be provided in class. Rings will be made for 18 gauge sterling silver.
Class Progression:
Step 1. Tool Orientation
Step 2. Ring sizing, sawing and filing three rings
Step 3. Forming your rings with tools, mandrel, and hammer
Step 4. Soldering Orientation
Step 5. Solder your three rings
Step 6. Form into a perfect round ring and into the correct sizing
Step 7. Saw rings and learn to put them together to form a roller ring
Step 8. Re-solder rings to create your roller ring
Step 9. File and polish to finish your beautiful ring!

Instructions for Making a Silver Roller Ring
- Learn to determine the length of wire needed to make your ring size. Saw three lengths for each ring needed from Sterling Silver wire. Each ring should be make one size larger than our ring size.
- File the edges straight and smooth.
- Shape each ring by using a ring former tool. The ends of each band must be flush. Use hard solder to join the ends of each band, one at a time, place the bands on a ring mandrel and hammer them into perfect circles.
- One rings are perfectly formed, saw two of the rings at the original solder seem.
- Combine the three rings to form the roller ring. Solder the two rings again using medium or hard solder and flux. File and sand the solder joints on both pieces. Each piece should look as good as a finished ring.
- Then pickle and rinse the ring.
- Stamp the inside of the rings
- Finish and polish!
