Event Details
In this class, students will learn how to move past the “stone on a plate” look and instead learn how to see a bezel setting as a canvas for detail. This intermediate workshop is designed for those who have the fundamentals down but want to inject more personality and technical flair into their work. We’re moving away from simple backplates and diving into textured and layered designs.
Stones will be available and are included in the price, but if you have your own stone, feel free to bring it to class and we can tell you if it will work with your design. We will review the basics from the intro class (how to get a snug fit for the bezel, the basics of soldering, how to get a clean seam, general ring design, etc.) but will also introduce formed wire embellishments, dimensional stamping, and soldered appliqué.
We recommend this class for individuals who have taken our intro level bezel setting course(s) or anyone who has previous experience in bezel setting and is looking to further their skills in metalsmithing!
Included Materials – All metal materials and stones are included in this workshop price, with the option of a silver or brass backplate for a mixed metals look. Each student will receive a 1×1 inch backplate, 3 inches of 16 gauge wire, and a 16” or 18” sterling silver or gold fill box chain (for a pendant) or 8 gauge half round wire for 1 ring band. Choose all sterling, or mix and match for a two-toned look!

-Master the art of stamping directly onto the backplate or from other soldered pieces to create custom textures that catch the light
