How Much Should IÂ Expect to Spend on Jewelry Repair?
Jewelry is meant to be loved and worn often. When this happens, it’s natural for the piece to age and show signs of wear over time. This can range from the jewelry losing it’s original shine to needing a minor or even major repair.

There are many different repairs that can be done to restore your jewelry. The cost will ultimately depend on the material and condition of your piece as well as what repairs want to get done.
Getting your jewelry cleaned and polished: Free and up to $50
No matter how careful you are with your jewelry, it will eventually get scratched or dirty. When this happens, bring it in for a cleaning and get that eye catching shine back!
Any piece that you purchase from Jewelers Guild can be brought in to our retail location for a free cleaning. Our store has professional grade ultra sonic baths and steam cleaners, so our goldsmiths can clean your piece in house while you wait.
If you get your jewelry cleaned but notice that there are still blemishes, you may want to consider getting it polished. Unless you have a complex piece of jewelry, this service should cost you between $25 and $60 and will buff out any shallow scratches in the metal.
If your ring or bracelet is made of white gold and you notice that it is losing its white color, you may want to consider getting the rhodium re-plated. This involves additional work and valuable materials, so it typically costs $40 to $90 range for a ring and will give your piece a clean white gold color.
Re-Sizing a Ring: $30-$200

Having a ring that doesn’t fit properly can run the risk of falling off if too large or cutting off circulation if too small. If your ring doesn’t fit as perfectly as it once did, you may want to consider getting it re-sized.
The price of re-sizing a ring depends on a few factors: the type of metal, whether you are sizing up or down, how many sizes you are having it altered by, and how wide or intricate the ring is.
You can expect to pay somewhere within the price range of $40 to $200 with the average price being in the $40 to $85 range.
Soldering a Broken Chain: $30-$230
If the chain on your favorite necklace breaks, you can fix it by getting it soldered back together. This will cost you anywhere from $30 to $260 depending on the type of metal and the area of the chain that needs to be soldered.
These repairs an be very affordable, such as soldering a link of a simple gold or platinum chains which will cost around $30 and $55 respectively. Something more complex, however, such as soldering a hinged joint can cost between $75 and $230.
Replacing a Clasp: $30-$250
If you have a faulty or broken clasp, it is only a matter of time until your necklace or bracelet falls off. Prevent yourself from loosing a cherished piece by getting the clasp replaced!
Depending on the style, the size, and the type of metal the clasp is made of, this can cost you between $20 and $250. To give you a better idea of what your clasp replacement might cost, a standard gold 5 mm spring ring clasp can cost $20 whereas the same style and size in platinum can cost $50.
Lobster clasps contain more metal and are therefore a little more expensive to replace. These will fall in the $60 to $250 price range depending on the size and material.
Re-setting a Stone: $30-$200
Gemstones can add color and sparkle to your jewelry, so when one falls out the piece just doesn’t feel the same. There are so many different stone shapes and setting styles, and as you can probably guess this means that there are many different prices. To give you an idea of the price that you can expect, we have provided some price ranges below:
Resetting a round cut diamond into a prong setting will cost you between $55 and $150 depending on the carat weight of the stone. A fancy cut that is in a prong setting will cost you between $75 and $180.
If you are remounting a channel set accent stone, it will cost between $45 and $80 for a round cut depending on the size, whereas a fancy cut will cost between $55 and $84.
Other settings include pave and flush set stones. These will cost around $30 and $80 respectively. Setting precious or semi-precious gemstones can cost even less, depending on the value of the stone and the labor needed.
